Shree Kamdhenu Electronics Private Limited (SKEPL)

The Challenge

During a visit to a small Indian village in themid-1990s, Sulax Shah noticed the inefficiencies and complexities of operations in the milk collection system.

SKEPL's Approach

Shah founded SKEPL in 1996 to address these issues. SKEPL currently offers several technological solutions including electronic weighing scales, milk analyzers, dairy cooperative accounting software and automated milk collection systems (AMCS), which are sold directly to village level cooperatives. They also developed certain products for national level dairy producers, and is is currently developing a new product called the “Nano,” a smaller, more energy efficient, handheld milk collection processor, that is targeted for small and medium-sized cooperatives that cannot afford a fully automated milk collection system.

SKEPL's Partnership with GBF

SKEPL has sold AMCS machines in nine Indian states. It will use the funds that GBF invests to market and finance the sale of these products to village cooperatives that cannot afford the existing AMCS system. SKEPL hopes to set up facilities at another 500 cooperatives and impact the lives of approximately 50,000 additional farmers in the first two years of the investment.

SKEPL's Impact

SKEPL generates economic impact by increasing the share of dairy production revenue that goes to farmers. SKEPL’s products are currently being used by approximately 1,800 cooperatives and have improved the lives of about 400,000 farmers to date.
