Novica

Neide Ambrosio, handbag artisan from São Paolo, Brazil
Neide Ambrosio, a handbag artisan from São Paolo, is married and currently resides in Rio de Janeiro. Her handbags are made of easily-accessible recycled materials such as soda bottle tops. She heard of Novica several years ago, by word of mouth, and was inspired and taught by a fellow artist she met at an arts and crafts fair. As the demand for her handbags increased, Neide was able to become financially secure, and go back to São Paolo to visit her family. Today, her business offers jobs to unemployed young girls—Neide currently works with 10 assistants. In the future, Neide would like to help young girls lead better lives and improve Brazil’s environment by continuing crafting with recycled items. GBF’s investment in Novica will assist in its three-year expansion effort, in an attempt to introduce new regions to its global network and increase the number of artisan communities.
